next session

It turns out that I cannot play on Friday the 30th after all. August 6 is bad for me as well. Thus, by necessity, our next session will have to be August 7. Looking forward to it.

Matt and I will not be able to play on the 7th, as we leave for Oregon on the 8th.

"Have fun storming the castle!"

You both will be missed. Have fun in Oregon.

I have a feeling Lilyth, my 2nd level fighter, may be missed in that dark, creepy dungeon more than I will. LOL ;)

Have fun, all! Looking forward to reading the re-cap. :)

So by my count (and please confirm!), we have Andy, myself, Bat, and possibly Eth? Five possible players with three definite 'cannot attends'?

Have good trips with the family, M&H and J. We'll definitely be thinking about you all during the night!

Should we aim for a 6PM start?

Howdy all!

6:00 PM works for me.

I'll be happy to host as well, if that will help.

Sorry that Calysta and Aeschere can't be here -- and I hope that things might work out for Julia, but I know that things are busy there, so I don't have my hopes too high.

Is there even a chance that Julia can join us? I didn't realize there was even the smallest chance...am I wrong?

We need to go back and visit family in MO/IL. We're waiting for the end of program Brian's working with at RIT with diversity students, and he's getting mixes messages about when that is. At the other end, Brian's folks leave for China 8/15, and we need to get by their house before then. So, it doesn't look good. Sorry I can't be more specific, but don't count on me.

August 7th now? Actually works out a little better for me. I wasn't sure if Paul could make it or not.

Calysta said...

:) I believe post festum, Riley and Bat are definitely playing on the 7th, with Erth as a possibility. (:

:( Aeschere and Calysta cannot play, and Julia is probably not going to be able to make it. ):

I have the map from last session. Shall I pass it along before you play on the 7th?

Calysta might come back to a completely new party! Enjoy Oregon, Heather.

Matt Fox said...

Yes, I really hope that Wulfgar, Calysta, and Thimble will not be making the acquaintance of a brand new party next time we are all together. Proceed carefully, and good luck!

I do anticipate attending on the 7th.

Everyone have safe, enjoyable trips! I'm on the road to Ohio this weekend.

Beric FTW! Have a good trip, Paul.

We'll be out of town until 8/18, by the way, and will most likely not be able to check the blog. I realize that you may need to plan the following session before then, so please go ahead and do so. With a little luck, Heather and I will be able to make whatever date you settle on, as I think our weekends are fairly open after the trip.

Does anyone want the map from last session? If you're playing in Penfield, you're welcome to stop by our place on the way to pick it up, if you'd like.

Riley said...

We need the map, even if our next mapper will feel inadequate after your artwork. I can't even color between the lines.

We finally have a schedule for our travel now, and I will NOT be able to make this next session. I look forward to hearing the recounts of the past session, as well as the next one, when I return from completing familial obligations.

That's too bad Julia. We will definitely miss you.

Riley said...

Sorry to hear that, Julia. Have a great trip.

Julia, sorry to see that you won't be able to make it either.

Calysta, I can grab the map. Are you around in the afternoons after 1:00? I usually get home from classes around then and can stop by on my way.

Everyone else, are we meeting at my humble abode? If so, that's fine, but I want Barb to be able to have a firm plan in place for the kids while we play.

I was wondering if we should think about staging an attack on our merchant friend in the dungeon. NOT THIS SESSION! But when we have more firepower (we're all a couple of levels up), should we consider some kind of attack? If you look at our treasure situation, we've had to fight and work hard for it. I am quite sure he is WELL protected, but I can only begin to imagine the kind of treasure he might have. I've been thinking about this for a while, and I start to get wild ideas about fabulous magical items and stuff along those lines. I'd much prefer to have a voice of reason calm me down before I start spending my money. . . .

Really looking forward to the 7th!

LOL...I love how you wrote "NOT THIS SESSION!"

With Bian Fu (sp?) as the only fighter able to make it, I think that's probably a wise decision, or Andy's prediction about a new party may come true. Proceed with caution, fellow adventurers, I'm fond of the party we have currently. Perhaps a session heavy with negotiation and strategy is best this time around. ;)

Let me know what day works for you to pick up the map, and we can arrange the exchange.

Riley said...

Considering he's able to operate down in the dungeon with impunity and apparently has done so for quite a while, I think an attack on him is unwise, at least for our near to middle future. I like Calysta's suggestion of some light exploration with a heavy dose of negotiation. Maybe we can seek out the wise sage living on Boar's Head Island in the Drankespree Tarn. It's close to Raven's Falls so we could finally check that place out as well. Just a thought. Before we do that, though, I think we need to go back and get another rubbing of the brass disk so he can interpret the language for us.

Hate to be an additional voice of reason, but I have to agree with Andy that an attack doesn't seem to be in our long-term interests - at least at this point. Besides being able to survive down here, suggesting great strength and resources or maybe even playing a part in the larger mystery of the tower dungeon, we can also look on the merchant as a life line of sorts we can avail ourselves of as we move further down into the dungeon. Even if only for more information.

And in addition to agreeing that we make a play to visit the old sage near Raven's Falls, I suggest we also consider dipping our toes into the second level of the dungeon, just to see what there is to see.

See you next week. Thanks for hosting, Bat.

Looking forward to it!

Trust me, I was not offering the idea of an assault for the near future, but to put it on our radar so that we kept options open.

In regards to the disk, isn't there a magic user among us who has a read languages or read magic spell? If so, perhaps on one of our journey days, we could read both the rubbing and the sword.

I like the idea of checking out Ravens falls. I think that could be fruitful, and I think the strength of the gathered members might be best suited to a less strenuous physical night given that we're down three party members.

As for the second level -- I'm not so sure about going there without our most heavily armored members. While I recognize that we could find a fight or two in Raven's Falls (or anywhere else for that matter), it would make logical sense that we will find a sure fight and likely tougher individuals on the second level -- do we really want to do that with a couple of hirelings, one fighter, a cleric and two magic users. Admittedly, one of the magic users is lvl 3 and I think so is the cleric, but that's a lot of undead turning to be done, and Beric's god really hasn't been all that predisposed to help. . . . I'm just not sure if that would be our wisest course of action.

Riley said...

I certainly see your logic, Bat, but I think we can risk a quick peak down on the second level. We are kind of cash poor anyway, and getting at least one treasure might be worthwhile. Anything more than a quick glance, though, would be pushing our luck. Any idea what our xp was for the night?

post festum said...

Riley, we are sharing a brain right now. Just a "quick peak" of the next level is all I am suggesting. We can and should enter with the idea of avoiding all possible dangers and retreating as soon as necessary.

But a quick "commando raid" of possible low-hanging fruit makes a lot of sense to me as well.

Riley said...

I'm very excited about our event. Have you picked out your spells yet, Matt?

Expect a post in the next little while with my initial ideas. I'm open to all suggestion, though. I've got some questions that I want Carl to answer before I make any final choice.
