I'm very sorry everyone, but due to unforseen circumstances, I will not be able to DM this Saturday. I am terribly sorry about this.

Oh, I hope everything is okay! I'll miss playing with you guys this weekend, but I understand that life does have a tendency to get in the way sometimes.
I just got off the phone with Matt and my wife. Matt was wondering if we might want to meet at his house anyway for a one-night dungeon crawl?
I would definitely be up for it -- I have the time set aside anyway, and it's always fun to get together and bash some skulls (or whatever) for a night. Andy, Matt mentioned the idea of offering his couch, or even Skyping in for the night.
I hope I'll still get to see you all.
Carl, sorry to see that something has come up. Good luck with it!
Hmmmm. Intriguing. If I don't drive up, I think I'd definitely be interested in Skyping in. I assume you were talking about Matt Hachee. Matt, if you get a chance, fill me in on the details. What were you thinking of doing?
After talking with a couple of you, I'd be glad to host something like the following: a one-evening hackfest in a "funhouse" dungeon with deadly traps and tricks. Each would roll up 4 pc's since lots of violent and bloody death are likely. Whoever survives with at least one life left wins.
However, I think it's possible that Carl can play again in two weeks from this weekend, and I think I'd rather skip this weekend if playing this Saturday night would mean that other folks wouldn't be able to play again in two weeks when we return to the Grinding Gear.
So, guess I'm asking if people would be able to play twice in the next 2+ weeks, or should we just wait to play until Carl is next available?
I've heard second-hand that Julia won't be joining us, so I suggest we go ahead and just cancel for this weekend after all. Hopefully Carl will post some dates for our next session in the near future.
Sorry I didn't post directly earlier. I'm not terribly interested in a "hack & slash" as my inherent love for the game is in character development. I'll be waiting for the 2+ weeks later when Carl is available.
And my thanks to Mrs. Bat who is the information disseminator!
I would not have been able to attend Sat. night, either, though a hack-n-slash like that sounds fun for sometime in the future. : ) A few weeks ahead looks like a reasonable possibility for me, also.
@Julia: No problem whatsoever. I don't think this is something that we hadn't all already guessed was the case. ;)
But since the idea appealed to others, perhaps we should filed this idea away for one of those sessions where Julia's schedule prevents her from joining our regular campaigns? I'd even consider sweetening the pot: those that survive the night receive the reward of a permanent single hp increase for their Eime character.
I dunno, kind of seems appropriate for the Halloween season.
"Common, standard hirelings are basically the usual craftsmen or laborers taken on by lower level player characters...In general the various occupations represented here are common to most settlements of village-size and above, although each and every village will not be likely to furnish each and every sort of common hireling." (ad&d "Dungeon Master's Guide", 1979) p. 28.
A careful (and at times even overly analytic) exploration of the traditions of "old school" fantasy roleplaying by two former d&d apostates who have recently returned to the game's roots. All advice and any suggestion is welcome.
Expect a particular focus on the retro-clone of OD&D, Swords & Wizardry as well as the occasional session recap from ongoing games. In our games we steal unabashedly from the great OD&D blogs linked to below.

Thoughts?
I could play both weeks, but would in that case probably just skype in this Saturday if that's okay. I would love a hack 'n' slash.

Okay, Matt. I'll send you a message about testing out MapTools tomorrow night. Take care.
