Actually, now that I think about it, I'll be at MCC every Friday until 7:30pm until Thanksgiving due to RAGTIME, so I'm afraid I won't be able to play at all on Fridays. Just an fyi.
Heather and I just talked, and given her rehearsal schedule over the next several months (she will be on campus M-F from 9 AM until after 7 PM), it is going to be very difficult for us to play at all. Fridays will not work at all, and Saturdays will be reserved for family time, as Heather will not be seeing much of me or the kids all week. Therefore, we have decided to withdraw from the campaign. We will both miss playing, but our new routine and responsibilities are not going to permit it, at least for the foreseeable future.
I'll be happy to pass relinquish Valda's character sheet, in case the party wishes to keep her on as an NPC.
We'll be sorry to lose the two of you, but you're right - family time is important.
Unfortunately, that weekend is shot for me -- I'll not be able to make it at all. We have a wedding and some other family plans. I hate to ask, but two weekends later?
Although I've been in that place myself and certainly understand, we'll miss you both. I've got a feeling the rest of us will still be here when your schedules improve!
As to the game on the 24/25th - I'm afraid that I can't make it either. There is a good chance I could skype in, but alas I can't get away from out-of-town guests on either night to attend in person.
Please feel free to play (I'm itching to give that Grinding Gear a good go myself, so I suspect others are as well) but I might mention that with Bat's home unavailable, and my home likewise full, we might want to make sure there is a location to host that weekend first. Just thought I'd mention it...
"Common, standard hirelings are basically the usual craftsmen or laborers taken on by lower level player characters...In general the various occupations represented here are common to most settlements of village-size and above, although each and every village will not be likely to furnish each and every sort of common hireling." (ad&d "Dungeon Master's Guide", 1979) p. 28.
A careful (and at times even overly analytic) exploration of the traditions of "old school" fantasy roleplaying by two former d&d apostates who have recently returned to the game's roots. All advice and any suggestion is welcome.
Expect a particular focus on the retro-clone of OD&D, Swords & Wizardry as well as the occasional session recap from ongoing games. In our games we steal unabashedly from the great OD&D blogs linked to below.

I'm only available on the 24th, and I'm very much looking forward to reconnecting with the party!
Unfortunately, I am unavailable on the 24th as it is the last day of auditions, and I will be putting in an 11 hour day of work that day. Sorry!

That Friday is a no go for me. Sorry. I could do the weekend before or after.
